William Reid Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) The Astrologist ($51.00)
That was an improved run last time out, but we can’t have him in selections around Moonee Valley.
He’s a much better type down the Flemington straight.
(2) The Inferno ($91.00)
The odds tell the full story with The Inferno, who is unlikely to figure in the finish.
(3) Queman (Best Roughie – $26.00)
Owning nine wins from 21 starts must be respected, regardless of where that form was.
Queman is a South Australian runner coming off two wins at Caulfield against easier opposition, but we’re happy to include him at the value odds.
(4) Johnny Rocker ($126.00)
He won well last time out but we can’t see him going close, hence the massive odds.
(5) Imperatriz (Best Bet – $1.75)
The New Zealand champion went down fighting with a big weight last start, and she pulled up with a fitness problem.
She’s back to her best here, and she’s much better suited at the weights. It should result in a win for the quickest horse in Australasia.
(6) Bella Nipotina (Best Each Way – $7.50)
She saves her best racing for The Valley with two wins and six placings from nine starts.
She loves to warm up and slingshot them on the turn, and we think she can test the favourite in the run to the line.
The odds are appealing, and the $1.90 to place is generous.
(7) I Am Me ($7.00)
The best-backed runner in the field after opening at $12, so that’s a good sign.
She owns nine wins from 18 starts, so she knows how to get it done, and getting an inside draw adds to her appeal.
(8) Queen of the Ball ($101.00)
A speedy type on her day, but her best days could be behind her. We can’t entertain her at the current odds.
(9) Hypothetical ($35.00)
Second behind Queman last time out, and only a nose from winning. That’s a solid form guide, and she could figure in the first four at odds.
(10) Cylinder ($4.80)
The colt got the better of Imperatriz last start, but he had a significant weight advantage.
This is a different race entirely, and although he’s not being left out because he’s a quality horse, winning will be much harder.
(11) King’s Gambit ($21.00)
Another colt not suited at the weights. Talented, but if it was weight-for-age, he would be a much better chance.
