Underwood Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Vow and Declare ($126)
The former Melbourne Cup winner is just having a run for fitness, and he won’t be there in the finish.
2. Alligator Blood (Best Bet – $3.10)
Running well this preparation without winning, but his performance for second at Group 1 level last time out is good.
There is no Mr Brightside in this race, so he’s an excellent bet at the price.
3. Mo’unga ($41)
He is quickly running out of chances after showing nothing in two runs back from a spell.
He looks disinterested in racing, which is never a good sign.
4. Nonconformist ($41)
Another runner that is preparing for a staying race during the spring. Could be run off his feet in the early stages.
$41 is about where we would have priced him.
5. Tuvalu ($8)
Considering where he drew last time out, it was a good effort for third in a tough race.
He has drawn wide again, but he shouldn’t have too many problems crossing to somewhere near the front over 1800m.
6. Smokin’ Romans ($41)
A runner looking towards a spot in the Melbourne Cup. Good enough to win this race, but connections will be happy to see him run on.
7. Alenquer ($51)
A former European who owns five wins from 15 starts.
Being set for staying races, so he’s another runner who will look to run on.
8. Without a Fight (Best Each Way – $5)
Without a Fight won both starts last preparation, which should be a good form guide for this race.
There has been solid betting support throughout the week, so he should be right in the thick of the finish over this distance.
9. Right You Are (Best Roughie – $21)
We loved his effort for second fresh up behind Jimmy the Bear, and although he rises in class, he’s a quality thoroughbred.
He owns two wins from three starts at the distance, so take the double-figure odds.
10. Soulcombe ($11)
A great return to racing when winning fresh up. It wasn’t a strong field, but he’s good enough to run in the trifecta or first four.
11. Duke de Sessa ($41)
He didn’t show enough in his second Australian start, following an eighth in the Doncaster Mile.
Barrier 16 isn’t going to help his chances.
12. Bank Maur ($41)
He’s not a bad type in the making, but we don’t think the four-year-old is quite Group 1 level just yet.
13. Lindermann ($13)
Better for two runs back from a spell and the Waller-trained runner hasn’t been overlooked in betting markets.
Barrier three with Hugh Bowman riding could be enough to see him in the mix.
14. Attrition ($8)
Second behind Pinstriped last time out at The Valley. Much more depth to this field, but he could run well.
The odds are too short for our liking but follow the money.
15. Duais ($23)
Better for four runs back from a spell, but her form is usually better towards the back-end of the spring.
16. Lunar Flare ($51)
On the Melbourne Cup path and she won’t be figuring in the finish.
17. Alaskan God ($51)
A punters worst nightmare this year. Can’t have him.
