Geelong Cup Day racing tips & form
—
Race 1. (12:30) Canadian Club BM70 (2400m)
#6 – King’s Crossing @ $4.20
He can be one-paced at times, but running against this level of opposition could be all he needs.
The four-year-old son of Almanzor owns a win and two placings at Geelong, so this is easily his favourite track.
That could be enough to see him land the prize.
Race 2. (13:00) Scaada Group BM64 (1100m)
#10 – Mornington Glory @ $6
Mornington Glory hasn’t won in a while, but the five-year-old is easily capable of beating this field.
He comes off a second placing at Ballarat behind Give Giggles, and although he had every chance, Give Giggles has since won again, so it’s a good form guide.
His opening odds have been snapped up, which is a good sign.
Race 3. (13:35) Marcus Oldham College BM70 (1300m)
#11 – Pantelone @ $2.40
Pantelone is already a two-time winner this preparation, and he doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
The three-year-old son of Street Boss owns two wins and four placings from seven starts, and his win at Mornington last start measures up well.
It always pays to include James Cummings-trained favourites.
Race 4. (14:10) Audi Centre Geelong BM64 (1400m)
#10 – Monarchs Brae @ $6.50
Monarchs Brae won fresh up last preparation, and we’re backing him to be too good again.
The five-year-old son of Highland Reel ran eighth at Sandown last time out, but he came towards the end of his preparation.
Barrier four adds weight to his appeal.
Race 5. (14:45) Roderick Insurance Brokers Geelong Classic (2200m)
#3 – Dulcet @ $2.30
Money is with Dulcet, who couldn’t have been more impressive getting off to the mark at Sale.
The three-year-old won by two lengths as a $1.30 chance and he wasn’t touched in the run to the line, so there’s no reason why he can’t win.
Having James McDonald in the saddle helps.
Race 6. (15:20) Brandt Colac BM70 (1700m)
#3 – Falcon of Malta @ $5.50
Falcon of Malta could continue to fine run of the Moroney stables and score his fourth win this preparation.
The son of Fiorente won at Werribee and Sandown twice, so the form checks out, and is win at Sandown last start was good.
Dropping in distance shouldn’t worry him too much.
Race 7. (16:00) Bet365 Geelong Cup (2400m)
#13 – First Immortal @ $2.70
Beating the imports is never easy, but we love how First Immortal is progressing.
The four-year-old owns seven wins from 14 starts, and he showed his determination when placing at Flemington last time out.
Carrying 54kg is a steal, so put him on top.
Race 8. (16:40) Hamilton Group Dual Choice BM84 (1200m)
#8 – Extreme Step @ $7
Extreme Step comes off a win at Mornington against a small field, but she showed good toughness to win.
The daughter of Extreme Choice gets in light on the weights and getting barrier three should be enough to see her go close.
Take the each-way odds.
Race 9. (17:20) The Sporting Globe After the Last BM78 (1500m)
#6 – Von Hauke @ $4
Von Hauke owns two wins this campaign, and we’re confident of a third.
The four-year-old ran on well for fifth at Flemington behind Tamerlane, and that was a leader-dominated race.
Punters get fair each-way odds.
