Oakleigh Plate Form Guide & Tips
1. Kallos ($13)
That was a classy fresh up win, and we’re not prepared to leave him out of selections at the generous odds.
2. Asfoora (Best Each Way – $5.50)
She didn’t do much wrong when running second behind Kallos fresh up.
She might have needed the run, and she’s classy at best.
3. Skew Wiff (Best Roughie – $23)
The Kiwi is looking for more ground, but she is good enough to sit on the pace and come with a big run late.
Drawing barrier three allows her to find a good spot and kick.
4. Sghirripa ($9.50)
Already a four-time winner this campaign, including a win at Flemington last time out.
A slick sprinter who can’t be left out of selections at the odds. He just needs luck from the wide draw.
5. Chain of Lightning ($27)
Her best form comes fresh up, but she hasn’t shown much over the last year.
This race is too tough for her.
6. Najem Suhail ($21)
As consistent as they come, which isn’t easy to do at the sprinting level.
53.5kg on his back makes him a worthwhile bet at the price.
7. Recommendation ($15)
Slightly shorter in betting markets than expected, so we don’t think the $15 is a good price for punters.
If he got out to around $23, we might be interested, but he’s too risky at those odds.
8. Benedetta ($8)
A proven sprinter with six wins from 10 starts.
She is good enough to beat this field fresh up, so include her at the each-way odds.
9. Brudenell ($23)
He is always tough to beat, but we’re unsure if he’s a genuine Group 1 performer.
We think there is better value elsewhere.
10. Hypothetical ($13)
A two-time winner second-up, so she should have no problems with race fitness.
Respected in betting markets, but she is drifting after opening at $10.
11. Lempicka ($81)
Knows how to win races but not at this level.
We can’t have her in our selections.
12. Mornington Glory ($26)
Prefers racing down the Flemington straight, so it’s best to wait until he gets back to headquarters.
13. Queman ($19)
Already a three-time winner this prep, which can’t be overlooked.
He runs at nice odds, and he could sneak into the first four with a good trip in transit from barrier two.
14 Rey Magnerio ($11)
In a winning mood, but he’s yet to face a field of this quality. He could struggle in the Oakleigh Plate.
15. King’s Gambit (Best Bet – $4.40)
A quality colt in the making, who gets all favours with only 50kg on his back.
He will likely drop back off the inside, and although he needs luck to get off the fence, he could storm home late.
He’s our top pick based on the weights and his raw talent.
