november 9 2017 thursday horse racing tips

The Melbourne Cup carnival rolls on to Victoria Oaks day this Thursday where punters can enjoy another top-quality betting card.

The $1 million staying feature for the fillies is set to be one of the most exciting races this spring and that’s just the topping on the cake of what should be a great day on the punt.

There’s nine races at Flemington this Thursday and we’ve done the form to find our best tips across the meeting.

All odds are with Sportsbet – our No. 1 rated bookmaker. New signups can claim a $501* bonus bet with Sportsbet by clicking HERE.

Flemington – Victoria Oaks Day free tips & form

Race 1. (12:15) Drinkwise Handicap (1700m)

#16 – Sworn Evidence @ $5.50 – BET NOW

Darren Weir lines up Sworn Evidence, which has some impressive form lines coming into this.

The filly by Redoute’s Choice finished second on debut at Sandown before beating Oaks contender Pinot by 1.25 lengths at Geelong.

Her run for fifth last start came behind Our Crown Mistress, which made it four consecutive wins at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

That form looks red-hot for this and the extra distance is only going to help her chances and the each way odds available is good value.

Race 2. (12:55) Twitter Trophy (1800m)

#9 – Ebediyin @ $6.50 – BET NOW

The current odds will likely firm with the scratching of Odeon, which won on Tuesday, but he will still be paying nice odds for this.

The imported five-year-old was beaten as a favourite at Moonee Valley last start, but he didn’t have much luck after being posted wide throughout.

Rising to the 1800m is going to be ideal here and returning to Flemington should also help his chances, given the lengthy straight.

There is concern that Flemington is playing into the leaders’ hands, but Damian Lane should put Ebediyin into the race as they approach the turn.

Race 3. (13:35) Off The Track Subzero Handicap (1400m)

#5 – Urban Ruler @ $4.20 – BET NOW

Urban Ruler looks well-placed from the barrier draw and he’s an in-form runner.

In this all greys race, Urban Ruler brings in a narrow win at Geelong last start and his form this year has been outstanding at this level.

The son of Street Boss defeated the talented Nikitas at this track in June and he has since run well in three starts, which also included a second placing in the Silverbowl Final at this track.

Everything maps out perfectly for the four-year-old which should sit on the pace and provide a good kick in the straight.

Race 5. (14:55) TCL TV Stakes (1400m)

#5 – Hellova Street @ $5 – BET NOW

Hellova Street might be a seven-year-old, but he looks in good shape to return to the winners’ circle here.

The Tasmanian-based gelding has had two runs this preparation for a third at Caulfield and a second placing at Moonee Valley behind Suspense.

Those runs have him in good stead for this and he rarely finishes out of the money over this distance. He’s also a past winner at Flemington which is handy.

Drawing barrier 10 won’t worry him as he likes to head forward from the barriers and carrying only 55.5kg is going to have him right in contention.

Race 6. (15:35) Absolut Stakes (1000m)

#2 – Ball of Muscle @ $2.25 – BET NOW

Punters didn’t think they would see Ball of Muscle as a short favourite ever again, but his most recent run was terrific.

The seven-year-old winner of almost $900,000 finished third in the Sydney Stakes (The Everest Consolation) behind In Her Time, which subsequently finished second in the Manikato Stakes.

Ball of Muscle has been around the mark at his last four starts, which included a placing behind Redzel in The Shorts at Randwick.

He has yet to win at Flemington from two starts, but he has more upside than most of these sprinters and he deserves to be at short odds.

Race 7. (16:15) Seppelt Wines Stakes (1800m)

#2 – Sambro @ $3.80 – BET NOW

Sambro might only be a one-race winner from 11 starts, but he brings in a good form guide to this race.

The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old finished second behind Levendi in the Carbine Club Stakes last Saturday and despite the quick back up, he should be tough to beat again.

His form in Sydney featured placings behind Kaonic and a third behind Ataraxia in the Dulcify, so we’re confident he can replicate that form against an easier field.

Hugh Bowman hasn’t been in the best of form throughout the carnival, but he can make amends with a good ride here.

Race 8. (17:00) Victoria Oaks (2500m)

Race 9. (17:45) Kennedy Plate (1100m)

#5 – Demerara @ $4.40 – BET NOW

Punters should forgive Demerara last start as running around Moonee Valley takes some getting used to.

The James Cummings-trained filly had won all three career starts prior to that placing and she should enjoy running in a straight line down the Flemington straight.

The daughter of Commands has impressive flat speed and drawing barrier 11 should ensure jockey Brenton Avdulla gets her to the right part of the track so she can show off her good cruising speed.

Her odds drifted a touch early on, but they’ve settled firm now.
