Bendigo Cup Day racing tips & form
—
Race 1. (12:30) BRB Electrical Maiden (1400m)
#11 – Alectrona @ $3.30
Alectrona looks to cap off consecutive second placings with a win, and she has been well-backed to do so.
The three-year-old filly by The Autumn Sun comes off a second placing at Ballarat, and getting the inside draw with a light weight is ideal.
She should prove tough to beat.
Race 2. (13:00) No Fuss Event Hire BM64 (1300m)
#3 – Persian Spirit @ $3.60
Persian Spirit broke through for a maiden win last time out, and he looks good enough to rise through the grades.
The three-year-old son of Cable Bay won at Swan Hill by 1.3 lengths, and although there is more depth to this field, he should measure up.
We expect money to come for him on race day.
Race 3. (13:35) Turners Crossing BM64 (2400m)
#7 – Harold the Great @ $5.50
Harold the Great needed two runs back from a spell, which should have him in good order.
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old placed at Bendigo two starts back before placing at Kyneton, which is solid form.
Money has come for him, which isn’t surprising.
Race 4. (14:10) 38th Battalion BM70 (1600m)
#2 – Angry Skies @ $3
Angry Skies showed his class when winning two starts back at Morphettville, and he wasn’t all that far away last time out.
The son of Toronado has been facing stronger fields than this, so dropping to midweek company gives him an edge.
Take the $3 before it shortens to around $2.40.
Race 5. (14:45) Big Al’s Water BM64 (1100m)
#8 – Material Dreams @ $2.60
Material Dreams went unbeaten during her first preparation at Moe and Wondonga, and she could return in full flight.
The three-year-old daughter of Lean Mean Machine is bred for speed, and her recent jumpout form at Flemington was solid.
Barrier two is ideal, so put her on top.
Race 6. (15:20) Bendigo Locksmiths BM78 (1100m)
#7 – Stormbolt @ $3.70
Stormbolt owns three wins and three placings from eight starts, including a second placing at his only attempt at Ballarat.
The talented son of Foxwedge looked good fresh up when running second at Flemington behind Electric Impulse, so the form checks out.
We’re happy with the current odds available for a smart type.
Race 7. (16:00) Apiam Animal Health Bendigo Cup (2400m)
#5 – Muramasa @ $4.80
Muramasa has been impressive winning at Flemington and Caulfield, so that form is good enough to win the Bendigo Cup.
The four-year-old son of Deep Impact has yet to rise to this distance, but it looks like he’ll be suited by the 2400m.
Carrying 55.5kg makes it that much easier for him.
Race 8. (16:40) Catanach’s Jewellers BM70 (1300m)
#8 – Jimmysstar @ $2.60
Jimmysstar is a former Kiwi runner, who comes off consecutive wins at Wanganui and Hastings.
The four-year-old son of Per Incanto won by 1.5 lengths last time out against a solid field, which measures up well at this level.
After opening at $2.90, money has come for him throughout the week.
Race 9. (17:20) Bet365 MCC Series Heat 8 BM78 (1400m)
#3 – Dashing @ $4.50
Dashing has done enough in two runs back from a spell, including a second placing at Sandown fresh up.
The six-year-old wasn’t far behind them last time out at Caulfield, so his form checks out nicely for this level of racing.
Money has come thick and fast, which is a good sign.
