Futurity Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Mr Brightside (Best Bet – $1.50)
Mr Brightside is one of the best thoroughbreds in Australia and his last-start win was incredible.
He knuckled down late to win right on the line, which was a terrific fresh up performance from the champion.
The odds are super skinny, but he’s the best horse in the race by some margin.
2. Pericles ($11)
Pericles was disappointing on face value fresh up, but he might have needed the run.
He is a two-time winner second-up, and he hasn’t been missed by bookmakers at the double-figure odds.
He’s good enough to figure in the first three.
3. Munhamek ($21)
We liked his win at Group 1 level in Perth, but he didn’t follow it up with much at Caulfield last time out.
We needed to see more from him on that occasion, and racing in Perth could be his best chance to win races now.
This race looks too tough for him to win.
4. Dom to Shoot ($21)
Another runner coming off a disappointing run for ninth at Ascot.
His win prior was full of class, but he hasn’t always shown his best form against top-quality types in Melbourne.
He could struggle to lift in the back end of the race.
5. Nugget ($10)
There has been money for Nugget at $10, and he’s a chance if he brings his best form to the table.
The seven-year-old has yet to race at Caulfield, but his fourth at Randwick behind Fangirl is a good form guide.
We expect him to be right in the thick of it.
6. Buffalo River ($11)
After opening at $21, the odds for Buffalo River have come tumbling down into $11.
That’s a serious betting move for a Group 1 race, so there could be stable confidence with the eight year-old.
We think a place is his best chance, so include in first four bets.
7. Attrition (Best Each Way – $8.50)
Money has also come for Attrition, who has plenty of upside with three wins and four placings from 10 starts.
We don’t think he’s anywhere near the same level as Mr Brightside, but he got the better of a quality field at Caulfield last start.
He’s good enough to test the favourite fresh up.
8. Hey Fat Cat (Best Roughie – $27)
Hey Fat Cat shows good barrier speed, which is his best asset.
The three-year-old tried to lead throughout at Flemington last start, but racing at Caulfield should suit him better.
Look for him to lead and try run them into the ground.
