We have expert betting tips for the Mackinnon Stakes this Saturday at Flemington which features a quality field of 10 middle-distance thoroughbreds.
After being scratched from the Cox Plate, Zaaki returns in the Mackinnon Stakes. He will need to see off a challenge from Colette, Mo’unga and Superstorm, so it’s a quality race.
We have a runner-by-runner betting guide available for the 2021 Mackinnon Stakes, which runs at 5:10 pm.

Mackinnon Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Homesman ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet
Homesman showed his class fresh up when second, but his form since has been only fair. He would need to find a few lengths to test this field.
Bookmakers look to have his odds spot on.
2. Cascadian (Best Roughie – $12) Bet @ Sportsbet
There was nothing wrong with his third placing last Saturday, and although he continues to run on without winning, he’s worth one more chance.
The James Cummings-trained gelding has placed in all three runs at Flemington, so he likes the track and it gives him time to warm up.
3. Superstorm ($13) Bet @ Sportsbet
He got the better of Cascadian on Saturday and he could kick on with it. A talented type and the long straight helps, so the $13 is a fair price.
He’s good enough to enter first four calculations, but he will need to run well in consecutive starts.
4. Zaaki (Best Bet – $2.40) Bet @ Sportsbet
Zaaki missed the Cox Plate with an elevated temperature, which isn’t ideal, but he’s the class runner of the field.
The seven-year-old owns nine wins from 29 starts, and although yet to race at Flemington, it’s a track that won’t give him any worries.
James McDonald rides and he can’t do anything wrong at the moment.
5. Keiai Nautique ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet
Controversially left out of the Cox Plate, but his lack of wins was the reason. He hasn’t won in a long time, so we can’t have the former Japanese runner.
6. Dalasan ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet
He seems to run his best races in Sydney, but he does own two wins at Flemington. The son of Dalakhani is tough to back because of his inconsistency, but a win wouldn’t be a huge shock.
7. Mo’unga ($8.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Fourth in the Cox Plate and the conditions didn’t suit him. He’s a smart four-year-old, who owns a better turn-of-foot than many in the Mackinnon.
Hugh Bowman rides and we expect him to be right around the mark. Include him in first four selections.
8. Private Eye ($10) Bet @ Sportsbet
A lovely win in the Epsom before getting too far back in the Golden Eagle. Those runs might have taken something out of him, but he’s a class act.
We expect Nash Rawiller to settle him back and hope for something to bring him forward. It could happen, so he’s another winning hope.
9. Colette (Best Each Way – $5) Bet @ Sportsbet
We couldn’t have been more impressed with Collete’s win last Saturday. She didn’t mind the firm track, as she stormed over the top of them.
She would love some sting out of the track, but even if the rain doesn’t come, her chances of winning are strong.
Her maturity levels are increased, and we’re happy with the $5 available.
10. Hungry Heart ($10) Bet @ Sportsbet
Showed her best form as a three-year-old. Has quite matured, but her placing behind Colette on Saturday was a step in the right direction.
Twice-placed at Flemington, so keep safe.
