August 30, 2017 – Wednesday horse racing tips for Canterbury and Sandown

fortensky - august 30 wednesday horse racing tips

The new racing season is in full swing and what a weekend of action punters witnessed at Moonee Valley and Rosehill last weekend.

It was further proof that midweek racing is a key punting guide to Saturday metropolitan races and this week the racing scene goes to Canterbury and Sandown.

Sandown, as it typically does, boast the bigger fields where punters are getting some great value in most fields.

Canterbury hasn’t attracted big fields, but the quality is there and we’re expecting some competitive racing out of both venues.

All odds are with Sportsbet – our No. 1 rated bookmaker. New signups can claim a $501* bonus bet with Sportsbet by clicking HERE.

Free Tips and Form at Canterbury

Race 1. (13:25) All Too Hard Maiden Handicap (1100m)

#1 – Faeger @ $3.60 – BET NOW

Faegar has been racing against some high-quality thoroughbreds this year and he faces a nice drop in class for this.

The three-year-old colt has placed in three of its five starts and two of them have come at this distance. His most recent start came at Canterbury when finishing third behind Songlike and that’s extremely good form for this.

The son of Choisir finished off strongly behind the stakes type and his form prior included placings behind the likes of Villa Carlotta and Beacon.

There is some talent in this field, but it doesn’t run very deep. He should get some cover from out wide and launch at them late.

Race 2. (14:00) Tabcorp Maiden Handicap (1100m)

#2 – Cadencia @ $3.70 – BET NOW

Any runner from the Chris Waller stables that has been nicely supported should be considered as a winning hope.

The filly by Street Cry has shown some good talent at the trials and she’s bred to be better than most of these runners.

Having Hugh Bowman in the saddle is a big sign for punters who are cautious of backing first starters, but she looks to have the goods and it would pay to follow any positive betting moves on the runner.

Race 5. (15:45) Theraces Handicap (1550m)

#2 – Fortensky @ $6.50 – BET NOW

Chris Waller-trained four-year-old which has been knocking on the door for some time now, but now it’s time to win a race.

The daughter of Love Conquers All has won two from its 11 starts, but she has six placings to its name and they have come against good quality fields.

She went desperately close against Sir Barb after leading throughout last time out and she has placed in four of her five starts at this distance.

Track conditions are no worry for the mare and it’s about time she rewarded punters by crossing the line first.

Race 6. (16:20) Schweppes Handicap (1200m)

#4 – Gauguin @ $4.80 – BET NOW

The John Sargent-trained Gauguin produced a stellar trial leading into this race and its form last season was top notch.

The son of Dalghar scored a good win at Warwick Farm second up over Dahooil before running in the Spring Stakes at Randwick where it caused interference.

He didn’t have any luck in the run and was held up at vital stages, but after finishing third he was relegated into fourth. That run was much better than it looked on paper and the winner, Invincible Gem, has since done to business.

Punters might be able to get a good fresh up price, but we’d recommend taking anything higher than odds on.

Race 7. (16:55) TAB Rewards Handicap (1200m)

#8 – Regimen @ $4.00 – BET NOW

Regimen is an unbeaten star for James Cummings that gets into the race very well on the weights.

The three-year-old filly by Sepoy scored on debut by almost two lengths over Puppet Master and her win second up at Canterbury was full of class. She worked to the front on a hot tempo and held off all challengers by two lengths.

Having experience on this track is ideal and punters will likely come for the Godolphin-raced runner once again.

Free Tips and Form at Sandown

Race 1. (12:30) Moonookyle Park Handicap (1000m)

#2 – So Far Sokool @ $3.30  BET NOW

The Archie Alexander-trained three-year-old is a former Kiwi which showed good form over the Tasman.

The three-year-old by Showcasing finished second on debut before a potential superstar before winning by 4.5 lengths at Avondale.

Despite running on an unsuitable heavy track in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, she managed to finish second against Haussman and that’s good form for this level.

Racing under different conditions in Australia can be tough, but OTI Racing have purchased her and that’s always a good sign.

Race 4. (14:10) Dillion Constructions Handicap (1300m)

#6 – All Too Royal @ $8.50 – BET NOW

Ciaron Maher lines up All Too Royal which scored an impressive win last start by 1.75 lengths. The three-year-old son of All Too Hard raced as the odds-on favourite and never gave them a chance in the finish.

His run prior came in the Talindert Stakes where he ran seventh behind Ducimus and that form lines up very well at midweek level.

Drawing barrier six should land him in the ideal position against this field and Luke Nolen is riding well enough to steer All Too Royal Home.

Race 5. (14:45) Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (1000m)

#1 – Motown Lil @ $2.60 – BET NOW

Motown Lil was scratched from a harder race last weekend and it should find this much more to its liking.

The Robert Smerdon-trained four-year-old has city class form and is fresh up having run behind Overstep at Flemington last time out.

Its win over the likes of Secret Sham and Essence Of Terror earlier this year was full of class and she has won twice from four starts on this track.

She has also won three times from 10 starts at this distance and she gets a valuable 3kg claiming apprentice in the saddle.

She should be paying a value price.

Race 6. (15:20) Tile Importer Handicap (1000m)

#6 – Speedor @ $1.90 – BET NOW

Lovely type which won all three starts last campaign and he avoided running in a hot field last Saturday at Moonee Valley.

The Darren Weir-trained four-year-old has won three of its four starts and it has defeated the likes of Oak Door, Dam Ready and Biased Witness along the way.

There’s no doubting its class and Weir will have him ready to fire at the midweek level.

We’re expecting punters to come thick and fast for the quality type.
