Round 15 of the 2017 AFL season and we are back to a classic Friday to Sunday fixture of football.
Last week was hands-down the most exciting round of the season to date, and this week could be even better with some very important match ups that will really start shaping the top 8.
Several teams are playing must-win games this week and we expect that to show with a number of very tight games. There are a number of games where we don’t like a H2H bet and have opted for some exotic markets which appear to be a safer bet.
We also have another crack at a big multi!
Read on to find out what we like for round 15 of the 2017 AFL season!
Below are our early picks prior to team announcements on Thursday night.
All odds are with Sportsbet – our No. 1 rated bookmaker. New signups can claim a $501* bonus bet with Sportsbet by clicking HERE.
19:50 Melbourne ($1.80) v Sydney ($2.01) @ MCG
Both teams are coming off absolutely thrilling come-from-behind victories last week and will be looking to solidify their position in the top 8 this week.
The Demon’s victory came against West Coast in Perth and being back at home is big plus for them this week. Keep an eye out for Watts and Hogan to be big inclusions to the side this week.
The Swans victory was even more impressive, coming from 19 points down with three and a half minutes remaining to seal the win with a goal after the siren.
Never count either one of these teams out.
This will be a close one and we don’t like the H2H bets here. We are tipping a close one and will take either team by -19.5 @ $2.20 for the betting play on this game. For tipping purposes, we’ll take the Swans.
Sydney by 10
13:45 Western Bulldogs ($1.45) v West Coast ($2.75) @ Etihad Stadium
The Bulldogs got up by a point against the fast-finishing Roos last week and were lucky to come away with the 4 points. Expect to see a few changes to the side this week so keep an eye on the ins and outs on Thursday night.
West Coast played well but just couldn’t get over the line against the Demons last week. Kennedy didn’t make it back into the side last week but he must be getting close now – big watch on Kennedy in the team announcements – if he is named, these odds will swing much closer.
The Eagles have struggled in Melbourne this year and we don’t expect that to change this week. They’ll be in the game but we expect the Bulldogs to get the win.
Western Bulldogs by 22
14:10 Carlton ($3.35) v Adelaide ($1.30) @ MCG
Carlton are playing some good football in recent weeks but things may have caught up with the young side last week against Richmond. Things don’t get any easier for them against the Crows this week.
Adelaide will be bitterly disappointed about their loss to the Hawks last week in front of a home crowd. They will want to bounce back quickly and they are up against a side where a big win is not off the cards.
Carlton are becoming a tough side, but we expect the Crows to win this one comfortably.
Adelaide by 35
16:35 Gold Coast ($1.84) v North Melbourne ($1.97)@ Metricon Stadium
The Suns were outclassed by the Saints last week but are back home at Metricon Stadium this week for Gary Ablett’s 300th AFL match. We are expecting the Suns to play out of their skin this week to make Gary’s 300th a memorable one – and he deserves it to be.
The Roos are the unluckiest side in the competition this year and they suffered yet another loss by less than a kick last week. The Roos are a big chance here against the Suns and we think this will be a very tight game.
Tough to pick a winner in this one, so for betting purposes, we are liking either side by -19.5 @ $2.25. For tipping purposes, we’ll take the Suns to win for Ablett.
Gold Coast by 12
19:25 Greater Western Sydney ($1.36) v Geelong ($3.15) @ Spotless Stadium
GWS demolished the Lions at the Gabba last week without the services of gun midfielder, Josh Kelly. His injury is a bit of an unknown, so he is a big watch for the GWS team announcements this week.
Geelong got off to a slow start against Fremantle and were forced to play catch-up football. They cam away with the win in the end but will not be able to get off to a slow start this week against better opposition.
We think this will be a close game and, again, we are liking the tri bet for either team to win by -19.5 @ $2.40. For tipping purposes, we’ll take GWS in a close one.
GWS by 10
19:40 Port Adelaide ($1.33) v Richmond ($3.35) @ Adelaide Oval
Port have put together two solid performances in a row now but are up against a tougher opposition in Richmond this week. They have the home ground advantage and will need to be on their game from the very first bounce to avoid the situation they faced against Essendon a few weeks back.
The Tigers got the win over the Blues last week and will be desperate to make it two in a row this week. Richmond have been up and down this year and will need to be right on their game if they are going to be a chance to get the win.
We’re tipping another close one here and are liking the odds for either team to win by -19.5 @ $2.40. For tipping purposes, we’ll take Richmond.
Richmond by 8
13:10 Essendon ($1.10) v Brisbane ($7.00) @ Etihad Stadium
Last week was another one that got away for the Bombers. When they are playing their running style of football, they look amazing and will challenge every team in the competition. Last week cost them when they tried to slow the game down and wind down the clock. I can’t help feel that the result may have been in Essendon’s favour if they kept to their natural game.
Brisbane faced a big task against GWS last week and even more so after losing skipper Dayne Beams to a shoulder injury. He looks set to miss a few weeks and he’s a big loss to the Brisbane midfield.
Essendon beat the Lions unconvincingly earlier in the season. The Bombers have improved out of sight and we think they will have their biggest win of the season.
Essendon by 66
15:20 Hawthorn ($2.02) v Collingwood ($1.80) @ MCG
The Hawks caused one of the biggest upsets of the season so far, stunning Adelaide in Adelaide last week. I don’t think any tippers gave them a chance but they pulled out some form that they have been known for over the last decade.
Collingwood were extremely poor after half time last week against Port Adelaide and will need a win here to keep their finals hopes alive. Two weeks ago we would’ve picked the Pies without even thinking about it, but they are facing a Hawthorn team who are hot off a good win. Interesting game.
We’re predicting a game that could go wither way in the end, so we’ll stick with our tri bet picks and go for either team to win by -19.5 @ $2.10. For tipping purposes, we’ll take the Hawks to win.
Hawthorn by 12
16:40 Fremantle ($1.75) v St Kilda ($2.08) @ Domain Stadium
Fremantle got away to a blistering start last week against the Cats but couldn’t hold them off in the end. They are back at home this week and are up against easier opposition.
The Saints would be pleased to get the win over the Suns last week and are in the group of teams that are really fighting it out for finals.
A win here is very important for both teams’ finals chances and we expect that to show in the way the game is fought out until the very end.
Another close one here and another game where we’ll take either team to win by -19.5 @ $2.00. For tipping, we’ll take the Saints.
St Kilda by 10
Round 15 AFL multi bet:
Demons/Swans either team -19.5 @ $2.20
Suns/Roos either team -19.5 @ $2.25
Giants/Cats either team -19.5 @ $2.40
Power/Tigers either team -19.5 @ $2.40
Hawks/Pies either team -19.5 @ $2.10
Dockers/Saints either team -19.5 @ $2.00
Total odds = $119.75
A $10 wager would pay out $1,197.50 at current odds.
