Round 14 of the 2017 AFL season sees us back to a full nine match fixture for the week with Adelaide and Hawthorn to kick off the round on Thursday night.
There are some great match ups this week and there also appears to be some good betting value for punters in a few underdogs that we think are looking good this week. We’ll also have another look at some of the more exotic markets and have another play at good value multi – we’ve been pretty close in the past and it’s only a matter of time until we pull one off!
Read on to find out what we like for round 14 of the 2017 AFL season!

19:50 Adelaide ($1.10) v Hawthorn ($7.00) @ Adelaide Oval
Both teams are coming off the bye and are on either ends of the ladder.
Adelaide are coming off a good win over St Kilda the previous week and the Hawks are coming off yet another disappointing loss the Gold Coast in a game they were leading at half time.
This game is a matter of Adelaide by how much? Can the Hawks keep the margin respectful? At the Adelaide Oval, it’s a tough ask for the Hawks and we think the Crows will win by at least 8 goals.
Adelaide by 48
19:50 Sydney ($1.44) v Essendon ($2.80) @ SCG
Sydney continued their dominating run against the Tigers last week and are now the only team to have won five our of their last six games.
A big plus for the Swans is that Buddy Franklin has escaped suspension for his high shot and is free to play this week.
The Bombers played their best match of the season against Port before the bye and they will be looking to back up that performance in Sydney.
The smaller SCG venue should suit the style of footy the Bomber’s are playing this year and we think that $2.80 is great value H2H.
At these odds, we’ll take the Bombers to win and put this in our multi.
Essendon by 14
13:45 Collingwood ($2.15) v Port Adelaide ($1.70) @ MCG
Collingwood are coming off the bye and Port are coming off a decent win over the Lions at the Gabba.
The Pies are really missing Jamie Elliot up forward and it looks like he is still a few weeks away.
Port are up and down this season. Their best is really good and the worst is really bad. If they are to be a serious finals contender they will need to start getting more back-to-back wins and putting in more consistent performances.
This should be a good game but we’ll take Port Adelaide H2H and add this in our multi for the week.
Port Adelaide by 15
16:35 Brisbane ($5.75) v Greater Western Sydney ($1.14) @ Gabba
Brisbane are at home at the Gabba again this week but are up against a stronger opposition this week.
As usual this year, this Lions are not being disgraced in their losses, but they are losses nonetheless.
GWS are coming off the bye and a disappointing loss to Carlton the week before. There are question marks over the fitness of Josh Kelly who is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a hip injury. Needless to say, he is a massive loss for the Giants.
We have no doubt that GWS will win this match, but the young Lions will show their usual fight and make it somewhat competitive.
GWS by 42
19:25 Western Bulldogs ($1.42) v North Melbourne ($2.90) @ Etihad Stadium
The Bulldogs have shown a big weakness in recent weeks with the tagging of Jason Johannisen proving to be a really effective in shutting down their natural style of play.
The Roos will surely apply the same tactics to Johannisen if they are to be a real chance of winning.
North Melbourne were smashed by St Kilds last week, although, the scoreline didn’t reflect that in the end.
These two teams match up really well on paper and this will be a real dog fight (pardon the pun).
In a close one, we’ll take the Roos to edge out the Dogs and add this one to our multi.
Roos by 10
19:40 West Coast ($1.42) v Melbourne ($2.90) @ Domain Stadium
West Coast are coming off a good win at home over Geelong last Friday night and are back at home again this week. Josh Kennedy is expected to be back in the side this week but watch the team announcements on Thursday night to confirm that one.
The Demons are continuing to get the job done and are now 5th on the ladder! They face a tough task over in Perth this week and they are also without captain Nathan Jones for the next 4-6 weeks with a quad injury.
There is also concern over Jack Watts who pulled up with hamstring tightness. He is another big watch in team announcements.
We will take West Coast H2H at these odds and would expect them to come in sharply closer to game time. We’ll also add this one to our multi for the week.
West Coast by 25
13:10 Geelong ($1.19) v Fremantle ($4.75) @ Simonds Stadium
Geelong are coming off a loss to the Eagles in Perth last week but are back at home this week where they have dominated opposition teams this year.
Fremantle are coming off the bye and a really disappointing loss to the Lions the week before. They will want to make amends for that performance but this is a really tough ask for them.
Geelong will cruise to victory in this one.
Geelong by 30
15:20 Richmond ($1.46) v Carlton ($2.75) @ MCG
Richmond are coming off a loss to the Swans in a game that they had a 25 point lead at half time. They will not be happy with that effort and Carlton will feel the full force of that this weekend.
Carlton have hit some good form and will be playing with a lot more belief this week. Bryce Gibbs played one of the best games of his career last week and Liam Jones has found his form in defence and should play a shut down role on Jack Riewoldt.
This is an interesting game but I think Carlton will get a rude wake up call this week and Richmond will make a statement that they shouldn’t be forgotten (yet).
We’ll pick Richmond to have a big win and cover a -23.5 pick your own line at $2.40 and add this to our mutli.
Richmond by 52
16:40 St Kilda ($1.26) v Gold Coast ($3.90) @ Etihad Stadium
The Saints are coming off a win over North Melbourne last week in a game that they dominated for three quarters, only to let the Roos creep back into the game in the last.
They have been inconsistent this season and will need to be at their best to get a win over the Suns this week.
The Suns are coming off a close loss to Carlton in which they lost Michael Barlow with a broken leg late in the game. Jarrod Harbrow is back for the Suns this week and he will want to put in a strong performance after letting his team mates down with a drink driving offence a few weeks back.
We expect this to be a close one but will take the Suns to win at good value at $3.90. This will make up the last leg of our multi.
Gold Coast by 10
Round 14 AFL multi:
Bombers H2H @ $2.80
Power H2H @ $1.70
Roos H2H @ $2.90
Eagles H2H @ $1.42
Richmond -23.5 @ $2.40
Suns H2H @ $3.90
Total odds = $183.47
A $10 wager would pay out $1,834 at current odds.
